Gawai Dayak is a festival which held annually in West Kalimantan, on 1st June. It is held to celebrate the succesful of rice harvest. Gawai Dayak is held by Dayak tribes like Dayak Iban, Bidayuh, Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit and Murut.
And usually in the celebration of Gawai Dayak the local community provides the traditional Dayak food and drink, such as tuak that has been provided for one month, before the celebration of Gawai Dayak, and the other foods are Lemang and Penganan.
Gawai Dayak is usually held at night, exactly on May 31 at Longhouse and there are also ceremonies called " Muai Antu Rua" which aims to get ri of greed.
In the celebration of Gendang Rayah (ritual music) is intended as an accompanist in the offering ceremony (upacara persembahan) and for guidace and blessings and long life.
It was first celebrated on 1 June 1965 and the name of the festival is not Gawai Dayak but " Sarawak Day" but when the Sarawak was awarded independence it change become " Gawai Dayak".
